So how should a child be treated? :)
Posted // 5:55 AM
All children are special and should be treated as such.
After reading about the different types of the child abuse, we will be explaining more on how a child should be treated.
Children, being young and immature want to feel a sense of security and an arm of protection. They need to feel like they are loved. Parents should take time off to spend some bonding time with their child, and not get their head buried in work and leave the child feeling neglected. The parents may think :'' Oh it doesn't really matter they can play with their toys". But NO. The way you treat the child plays a very important role in the child's development. Neglect, when taken to a larger scale, can cause even more damage to the child's development. So, the message we're trying to get across is to spend more time with your children.

Many a times, when a child makes a mistake, the parents end up hitting or physically hurting the child as their way of disciplining them. Parents are usually under a great deal of stress and have all the anger bottled up inside of them. By physically punishing the child, it gives the parents a way of releasing their anger and venting it on an innocent child. Yes, it is important to discipline a child when he/she has done something wrong but some parents abuse this right and vent all of their anger on the child. This is not something a parent should do. As the saying goes ''Monkey see, Monkey do", it applies to how the children see and follow what their parents do. There is a high chance that the child may end up physically abusing their own child in the future.
Physical abuse would leave the child with painful and scarring memories. In the long run, the child may also become emotionally unstable and end up abusing their own child. So, treat your child right. There are other ways of disciplining them without actually hurting them.
Last but not least, treat your child with RESPECT. Children are also human beings. They have their own civil rights. Forcing them to do something that they do not wish to do is wrong. Yes, we are talking about sexual abuse. Sexual abuse is by far one of the most cruel way of abusing a child. Using the child as a form of sexual stimulation. Sexual abuse will leave a lot of scars in the child's life. Children usually suffer in silence and are helpless as their parents have control over them and they just endure and endure, not knowing they can actually get help. Treat your child with respect. They deserve that.

Now that you have learnt how you should treat your child, TREAT THEM RIGHT! :D

Hello! We are Team Esperanza and as a start to our blog, today we'll be covering the four main aspects of child abuse.

Child abuse refers to the physical, sexual or emotional mistreatment or neglect of children.

The four main aspects of child abuse are:
1. Neglect
2. Physical abuse
3. Psychological/emotional abuse
4. Sexual abuse

Neglect
There are various definitions of child neglect, but can be defined as a serious form of maltreatment. Subsequently, there are two distinct types of neglect, and one is the failure to provide, and the other, failure to supervise. A child's parents may be unable to provide for him/her a proper home, education, ample food and water and etc. Although circumstances may not permit the parents to provide their child with such basic necessities, help is readily accessible for most of them and the blame will be shifted back to the parents. These children would be affected emotionally or physically.

Physical abuse
Physical abuse basically refers to abuse involving contact intended to cause feelings of intimidation, injury or any other form of physical damage. Children may have very bad-tempered parents and they may kick, punch, whip, expose them to a surrounding of drastic temperatures, deprive them of sleep, starve or even poison them. This is a common case in parents with mental or sadistic personality disorders.

Psychological abuse
This is defined as exposure to certain situations or physical surroundings that may traumatize the child. Parents may be verbally aggressive and use very harsh words on their children, or being overly controlling/dominant in their child's lives etc. Affecting a child mentally can be fatal, as the child is unable to subdue his/her anxiety or chronic depression.

Sexual abuse
This last type of abuse is whereby an adult makes use of a child for sexual stimulation. Victims of this type of abuse would often be severely traumatized, and they might become a carrier of fatal STDs. Parental incest usually result in more long-term and serious cases of psychological trauma.

Well, why should children undergo such horrific treatment? They definitely deserve so much more than this, so let's do our part! Wear your Blue Ribbon today! :)

We are Abigail, Jamie, Sheryl, Stacy and Ying Xia from 3A3 of PLMGSS, and we are a group of students embarking on a project in hope of raising awareness for the children from dysfunctional families :)

Rationale
ESPERANZA is Spanish for hope. :) By naming our project and group name Esperanza, we want to bring hope and inspiration to the children who are less fortunate than us. Through our small acts of kindness, we hope that it will impact them greatly and that they may have newfound hope in their lives!

Many of us come from complete families where we are showered with love from our parents and family members, without having to worry about being abused. Have you ever wondered how life is like for a child who comes from a dysfunctional family? Well, these thoughts may not have crossed your mind. Therefore, through the videos, pictures, designed activities and campaigns, we hope that you will learn more about the lives of these children and show your support by being empathetic towards them through our blog and Facebook page! :)
