Hello! We are Team Esperanza and as a start to our blog, today we'll be covering the four main aspects of child abuse.Child abuse refers to the physical, sexual or emotional mistreatment or neglect of children. The four main aspects of child abuse are: 1. Neglect 2. Physical abuse 3. Psychological/emotional abuse 4. Sexual abuse Neglect There are various definitions of child neglect, but can be defined as a serious form of maltreatment. Subsequently, there are two distinct types of neglect, and one is the failure to provide, and the other, failure to supervise. A child's parents may be unable to provide for him/her a proper home, education, ample food and water and etc. Although circumstances may not permit the parents to provide their child with such basic necessities, help is readily accessible for most of them and the blame will be shifted back to the parents. These children would be affected emotionally or physically. Physical abuse Physical abuse basically refers to abuse involving contact intended to cause feelings of intimidation, injury or any other form of physical damage. Children may have very bad-tempered parents and they may kick, punch, whip, expose them to a surrounding of drastic temperatures, deprive them of sleep, starve or even poison them. This is a common case in parents with mental or sadistic personality disorders. Psychological abuse This is defined as exposure to certain situations or physical surroundings that may traumatize the child. Parents may be verbally aggressive and use very harsh words on their children, or being overly controlling/dominant in their child's lives etc. Affecting a child mentally can be fatal, as the child is unable to subdue his/her anxiety or chronic depression. Sexual abuse This last type of abuse is whereby an adult makes use of a child for sexual stimulation. Victims of this type of abuse would often be severely traumatized, and they might become a carrier of fatal STDs. Parental incest usually result in more long-term and serious cases of psychological trauma. Well, why should children undergo such horrific treatment? They definitely deserve so much more than this, so let's do our part! Wear your Blue Ribbon today! :) ![]() Do support us by liking our Facebook page too! Team Esperanza! :) |
